About the role
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be the strategic lead for Manchester Hospital School’s outreach work – working with schools across Manchester to enhance support and early intervention for children and young people who find it difficult to engage with their education. This work is an integral part of the DFE SEND and AP Improvement Plan, and because we work in equal measures with Education and Health, we are uniquely positioned to make a real difference.
You’ll work to establish close partnerships with schools and a range of other stakeholder organisations that will include local authorities, NHS, CAMHs and others. You’ll develop and provide training and advice for schools, drawing on best practice examples from around the world. This is a fantastic opportunity to become a subject matter expert in this crucial work.
About you
We expect that you’ll be an experienced and accomplished teacher, who is accustomed to working with pupils of all abilities, including SEND and who understands the diversity of a city such as Manchester.
The post may be most suited to a practitioner already working in special or leading on inclusion and trauma informed practice in mainstream.
You’ll be able to demonstrate previous successes in working with pupils who find it hard to engage in their education alongside experience of working with families with complex needs. It’s also important that you have an informed appreciation of partnership working in a multi-agency context.
This role is anticipated to be a full-time appointment, but we will consider part-time arrangements for the right candidate.
Because of the unique nature of our school we encourage applications from teachers working in a mainstream or Special School setting: either of these would be a relevant professional background. However, staff need to be able to plan for SEND learners and plan bespoke timetables for individual pupils across all sites.
It’s important that you bring a flexible and practically-minded approach to your work. It’s likely that you will work across more than one of our sites in any given week and you can expect to teach in a range of settings e.g. working with groups or on a one-to-one basis.
We follow the values in the ethical leadership framework at Manchester Hospital School.
Manchester Hospital School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, younger learners and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment. We follow safer recruitment procedures and all posts will be subject to enhanced DBS checks, satisfactory references and will be exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
These posts are also subject to satisfactory references, proof of right to work in the UK in accordance with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 and other pre-employment checks where applicable.
We are an Equal Opportunities Employer and we positively welcome applications from all candidates regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
